This job was a shop pad build-out in Marana - and it's a good example of what it looks like when site prep is done the right way from the start. The property already had a home on it, but the owner wanted a dedicated shop space. That means starting from scratch with raw ground and getting it ready for a concrete pour.

Here's what that process actually involves. First, we rough graded the pad area to establish a consistent, level surface. Then we brought in AB - aggregate base - and compacted it down properly. That compacted base layer is what gives the concrete slab something solid to sit on. Skip that step or rush it, and you're setting yourself up for cracking and settling down the road. We don't cut corners on it.

The footing trenches are the other piece people sometimes overlook. We ran a compact excavator along the perimeter and interior footing lines to get clean, consistent trenches dug to the right depth. You want those walls straight and the bottom tight - sloppy trenches make for sloppy footings. The laser level on site kept everything dialed in as we worked.

By the time we were done, the pad was graded, compacted, and fully trenched - ready for rebar and concrete. The whole site had been taken from raw desert ground to a clean, build-ready state. That's the goal every time. Get it right on the front end so everything that comes after has a solid foundation to build on.

Good site prep isn't glamorous, but it's the part that actually determines how well a structure holds up over time. If you're planning a shop, barn, or any kind of outbuilding in the Marana area and need dirt work done right, we do this every day.
