Construction leaves a yard in rough shape. Torn up ground, no drainage plan, nothing to look at. That's exactly what we were dealing with here - a yard that needed real work before it could look like anything worth being proud of.

The first step was grading. We shaped the ground so water moves away from the house the way it should. That's not a cosmetic thing - it matters for protecting the foundation and keeping the yard from pooling every time it rains. Once the grade was set, we built river rock swales along the side yard to channel water flow in a controlled, deliberate path. Function first, always.

From there, we brought in boulders for the front yard using a skid steer to place them where they needed to go. Large decorative boulders aren't something you just drop and call it done - placement takes thought. We positioned them to break up the space naturally, the way you'd expect to see them in a desert setting, not lined up like they were arranged by someone who'd never seen the outdoors.

We finished everything off with fresh decorative rock across the front and side yard. The result is clean, grounded, and sharp without needing constant upkeep. No irrigation headaches, no lawn to mow - just a yard that looks intentional and holds up over time. That's the whole point of a quality decorative rock install done right.

When drainage and aesthetics have to work together, the details matter. The grading, the swales, the rock selection, the boulder placement - each piece supports the next. This is what we do, and this kind of work shows exactly why getting it done properly from the start saves a lot of headaches down the road.
